Balmoral beach was the launch site for the 2000 Olympics sailing competition. Located on Sydney’s lower north shore just a ten minute drive from the city, Balmoral is the harbour’s premiere beach and an ideal spot to go kayaking. The beach faces north east and is sheltered from the ocean swell by Middle Head which makes it one of the safest and easiest places to kayak on Sydney Harbour. Balmoral features Edwards and Balmoral Beaches, both of which are separated by the outcrop of Rocky Point. Both beaches are usually referred to as simply Balmoral. The views across the entrance to Middle Harbour, North Head, Manly, and Clontarf are spectacular. The entire beach is listed on the Register of the National Estate as the “Balmoral Beach Conservation Area”.The conservation area includes the promenade, the esplanade, the Rotunda and the Bathers’ Pavilion, which date back to the 1930s.
